QUICK REFERENCE

Change the hours per week or weeks per year to update the hourly column. Weekly, biweekly, and monthly figures are based on the annual salary.

Annual Salary Hourly Rate Weekly Pay Biweekly Pay Monthly Pay

All figures are gross-pay estimates before taxes and deductions. Biweekly pay uses 26 pay periods; monthly pay uses annual salary ÷ 12.

FORMULA

How to convert salary to hourly pay

Hourly rate = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Paid weeks per year)

For a standard full-time schedule, 40 hours per week multiplied by 52 weeks equals 2,080 paid hours per year. Divide the annual salary by 2,080 to estimate the equivalent gross hourly rate.

Example: $75,000 ÷ 2,080 = approximately $36.06 per hour.

If your normal schedule is not 40 hours per week, use your actual weekly hours instead. A salary can translate to a different hourly equivalent when the number of annual work hours changes.

WORK SCHEDULE

Why hours per week matter

Here is how a $60,000 annual salary changes under three common weekly schedules when all 52 weeks are included.

35 hours/week $32.97/hr

1,820 hours/year

37.5 hours/week $30.77/hr

1,950 hours/year

40 hours/week $28.85/hr

2,080 hours/year

This is why the annual-hours assumption should always be visible when comparing a salary with an hourly wage. For more detail, see how many work hours are in a year.

PAY PERIODS

Salary converted to weekly, biweekly, and monthly pay

The same annual salary can also be converted into common gross-pay periods:

Weekly pay = Annual salary ÷ 52
Biweekly pay = Annual salary ÷ 26
Monthly pay = Annual salary ÷ 12

These are gross equivalents. Your actual paycheck may differ because of taxes, insurance, retirement contributions, unpaid time, bonuses, commissions, payroll calendars, and other deductions or earnings.

SALARY VS HOURLY

What this chart tells you — and what it does not

The chart is useful for comparing job offers, translating an annual salary into an hourly equivalent, or quickly understanding how salary relates to common pay periods.

It does not determine your take-home pay and it does not automatically represent an appropriate freelance or contractor billing rate. Contractors may need to account for non-billable time, business expenses, benefits, and taxes separately.
