CALCULATOR

Calculate unused PTO value

This calculator estimates gross cash value only. Whether unused PTO must or may be paid depends on employer policy, employment agreements, and applicable state or local law.

How to calculate PTO payout

The basic gross cash value of unused PTO is the number of eligible PTO hours multiplied by the hourly rate used for the payout.

Gross PTO payout = Eligible PTO hours × Hourly rate

Example: 40 unused PTO hours at $25/hour

Forty unused PTO hours multiplied by a $25 hourly rate equals a gross cash value of $1,000.

40 hours × $25/hour = $1,000

How salaried PTO payout is estimated

For salaried employees, Numviro converts annual salary into an hourly equivalent using the work schedule you enter.

Hourly equivalent = Annual salary ÷ (Hours per week × Weeks per year)

Why an eligible payout percentage is included

Some employer policies may limit how much unused time can be paid. The percentage field lets you model a partial payout without assuming that every unused hour is payable.

Important: the U.S. Fair Labor Standards Act does not itself require employers to provide paid vacation. PTO and vacation benefits are generally matters of employer policy or agreement, while payout obligations can also depend on state or local law.
