Calculate piece-rate pay

This calculator estimates piecework earnings and productivity from your inputs. It does not determine minimum-wage, overtime, or other legal pay requirements.

How to calculate piece-rate pay

Piece-rate or piecework pay is based on output rather than simply multiplying hours by an hourly wage. The basic calculation multiplies completed units by the rate paid for each unit.

Piece-rate earnings = Units completed × Rate per unit

Example: 300 units at $1.50 each

Completing 300 units at $1.50 per unit produces $450 in piece-rate earnings. If the work took 20 hours, the effective hourly rate is $22.50.

$450 ÷ 20 hours = $22.50/hour effective rate

How to calculate units per hour

Divide completed units by hours worked. Productivity is useful when working backward from a desired hourly income to the unit rate needed.

Target rate per unit = Target hourly earnings ÷ Units per hour
Important: wage-and-hour rules can apply to piece-rate workers. This tool intentionally does not decide whether additional minimum-wage, overtime, rest-period, or other compensation is required in a particular jurisdiction.
